The Other F Word: Punk Rock Dads Documentary Film

Now, how is this connected? It's a grand undertaking to find a cogent and authentic way to associate the anarchy of punk rock with family-friendly outdoor adventure. But I'm going to give it a shot, right here, right now. I've made worse decisions in my life.

So have the guys in this documentary, The Other F Word. The film peers into the modern lives of a number of rock and punk musicians who have since aged and are raising families. Art Alexakis of Everclear, Matt Freeman of Rancid, Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion, Mark Hoppus of Blink-182, Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, and a whole clan of others. I think the short of it is, hey man, anyone can end up a parent. Anyone. Doesn't matter if you crowd surf or rock climb. Or both. And no matter what, when you become a parent you simultaneously turn into a big pile of mushy, weepy baby-loving goo who spends the weekends pulling push duty on the backside of a swing set and throwing wicked dress-up tea parties. The reality of parenting does magical things to us all.

The Other F Word is screening around the U.S. this fall and winter, and has nothing to do with outdoor adventure. But it has plenty to do with parenting.
