Press Release: Your Adventure Travel Lifestyle Doesn't Have To End When You Start a Family

email this page Inspires An Active Lifestyle For The Whole Family

Chandler, Ariz.; October 6, 2009 - Many people assume wanderlust and adventure lifestyles end when families begin, but Chandler, Ariz. residents Mark and Brooke Stephens are showing parents that is not the case with

The Stephens didn’t let parenthood keep them from the life they reveled in prior to having their daughter in 2007. As a threesome, they have traveled, camped, hiked, cycled, and paddled throughout the western United States and Mexico. To promote adventure travel and eco-tourism with children, they recently launched, a resource that includes inspiration, ideas, equipment reviews, and entertainment – for parents who enjoy getting outside with their children, or for those who want to do so.

“Our aim is to inspire parents and parents-to-be to explore the backcountry with their children,” said Mark Stephens, publisher. “You really don't have to go far from home, and you can do it without spending much money. It's the perfect fit, but a lot of parents are not crazy about the idea at first. When they hear our stories and see our photos, most cozy up and even ask to join us on a trip,” Stephens added.

They travel to and explore locales such as National Parks, wilderness areas, mountains, rivers, deserts, and off-the-beaten-path places with their daughter and have done so since she was just five weeks old.

“As someone who grew up traveling around Africa, I applaud the Stephens for launching,” said Graham Jackson, director of Overland Training. “Adventure travel has never been easier or more accessible, but at the same time fewer families are doing it. Mark and Brooke are an inspiration both for people who are looking to get out for the first time as well as those that led an active lifestyle before having a family and are trying to find ways to continue that lifestyle.”

The Stephens make their full-time “base camp” in suburban Chandler, Ariz., enjoying easy access to the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico, and participating in Chandler’s kid-friendly community when they're not traveling.
