Sonnie Trotter: A Highball Honeymoon in Bishop from Patagonia on Vimeo.

Could there possibly be a happier time in life than the honeymoon? My wife and I were waiting in line in the general store at the Grand Canyon North Rim just a couple of months after getting hitched. We were also flirting. So the old guy behind the counter said, "You must be newlyweds."

"We are."

The place errupted in applause and smiles - and I'm not kidding. When you're newlywed, you get stuff for free and you get attention from strangers. Enjoy it while you can.

This short video from Patagonia follows newlywed climber Sonnie Trotter on a honeymoon road trip to California's Buttermilks with his bride Lydia Zamorano. They packed up the Ford Econoline and hit the road together for a couple of months. While very little of this takes a glimpse into the nuances of marriage on the road, you do get to see some fantastic climbing maneuvers.

Sonnie says, "If you can get married and then live out of a van and still be in love, you are good to go." It's a good path. We wish them the best.

I think one of the more romantic cities to visit is Italy. I personally went there on my honeymoon and my husband and I loved the food and the people there! I would strongly suggest Rome and Florence. Although it can get very touristy, especially in the summer, they are very beautiful places with so much history and culture. To break free from the tourist crowd, I would suggest you to try some home-dining options. We went to dine with one of the local hosts on BonAppetour, and were treated to a fancy meal at their homes on the rooftop! It is very simple to book a dinner with the
hosts on their website too! Other than that, I would also suggest you to try taking one of those Vespa tours, especially in the Florence country-side. Riding on the vespa with your partner across the green landscape is actually very thrilling and romantic! Hope this helped!
