Cool Find: NEMO Equipment's Bugout Family Shelter
Summer might be a ways off, but a guy can dream . . . and scheme about keeping bugs out of his ears. 144 square feet of chigger-free, kick-back relaxation and family corral area, and all you need are two trees, or two vehicles, to string up two opposite corners while the other two get held up by your own staked down aluminum poles (), trekking poles or an aged oak canoe paddle. Simple. All set up, the tarp throws a choice patch of shade around your tribe and the Cheez-Its for a touch of comfort at a basecamp or a lakeside picnic during a weekend of paddling. Wonky angle lets the rain slide right off, but that does come with a tradeoff. The high point at the outer corners is just 7', which is only okay for some folks. Those mesh sides roll up if you prefer or when they're down they keep the no-see-ums out of your ears and also allow entrance at two places. Summertime is on the way, and it seems like the NEMO Bugout shelter would only amplify time outside, not diminish it. Man. How come I didn't know about this baby sooner?
NEMO's been around for over 10 years now, and the company has earned a number of awards from various outdoor gear magazines. So, it stands to reason that the Bugout won't dissappoint.
The NEMO Bugout comes in two sizes 12'x12' (144 sf) or 9'x9' (81 sf), and weighs just 7 lbs for the big one, a little over 4 lbs for the small one.
