The Paint Shop Episode 6 "Life is Grand" Full Episode in HD from The Paint Shop on Vimeo.

Unless you're a river guide, riding the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon is a once in a lifetime opportunity, usually by raft, dory, or kayak. However filmmaker Seth Warren and surf artist Drew Brophy turned the knobs a little higher by plying those same wicked waters on standup paddle boards. The pair spent 16 days standup paddling the 225-mile length of the mighty river — repeat: standup paddling the Grand Canyon. Including the legendary Lava Rapid. The first half of this video tells the story, including the preparation and reflection after the adventure. It's a little slow at first, but hang in there because this is a 26-minute episode in a multi series that Drew Brophy puts together that aims to reveal the process that's required of a modern day surf artist making his living. A wildy fascinating series in its own right, this singular episode just happens to chronicle his Colorado River SUP adventure. So it's just as much about SUP as it is about how the endeavor inspried his artwork afterward. Watch an incredible adventure unfold, and see how his art and his livlihood begins with his two hands, with a pencil sketch upon blank paper and how his experiences shape his daily craft. It's just fascinating.

Brophy prophetizes, "I hope we're doing this when we're crusty old men."

The Sunday Morning Chillax is here while you're enjoying a cup of coffee in the quiet morning as your kids, hopefully, sleep in. No need to read, this is always a video; something to give you happy thoughts about mountains, fresh air, stoke, fun, or being outside. Enjoy. Relax. And, um, not guaranteed to be weekly — hey, you get what you pay for, but it's a dang good bargain.

It was great to see this post. I've been a Drew Brophy fan for years. We introduced Drew to Seth through JPFreek a few years back when we suggested Seth make a stop along their Oil & Water tour in San Clemente and meet the surf artist. Drew's artwork is amazing and reminds me of rock/surf artist Rick Griffin.
